It is no great secret that you need to have a nice supply of rain jackets and umbrellas to live in Seattle. The city averages only 71 clear days per year, and from October to May, it is partly to mostly cloudy six out of seven days. However, this does not mean that folks here are sitting around at home complaining about the weather! Seattle is jam-packed full of fun things to see and places to go that are indoors. Here are some of our favorite Seattle indoor attractions.
Chihuly Garden and Glass
This mesmerizing glass forest will take your breath away the second you walk through the door. The color and complexity of each piece of glass is simply unfathomable. Every room is more beautiful than the last. Be sure to check out the gift shop; you won’t want to leave empty-handed.
Seattle Art Museum
Not only are the exhibits here fantastic, you can actually take pictures of the art. Most museums of this nature strictly prohibit picture taking. The second you walk in you are blown away by cars tethered to the ceiling, and you immediately notice how metropolitan the vibe is. Exhibits are not congested; there is plenty of space to roam.
Seattle Center
Most people don’t have any idea just how much there is to do in the Seattle Center. Many folks even assume that the Space Needle is its only main attraction. Here you will find a long list of attractions and venues, including the Pacific Science Center, The Children’s Museum, SIFF Film Center, EMP Museum, Key Arena, and much more. There are also plenty of arts and theatre offerings, such as the Seattle Shakespeare Company, Seattle Opera, Pacific Northwest Ballet, and Pottery Northwest.
The Seattle Center offers a variety of productions, including fitness programs, art exhibits, Winterfest, and movies and concerts at the mural. Plus, it is home to the Rat City Rollergirls, Seattle Storm, and Seattle University Men’s Basketball team. If you live here, it is safe to say you will spend a lot of time at the Seattle Center.
Southgate Roller Rink
Loud music, disco balls, and roller skates equals fun for people of all ages. This venue has some specific adult skate evenings for couples, and singles looking to mingle, as well as some specific family skate times with more age appropriate music. They even offer skating classes. Not to mention, $6 for admission and skate rentals is awfully budget-friendly for a few hours of fun!
West Seattle Bowl
Like roller-skating, bowling is an activity you can really never get bored of. West Seattle Bowl is a really nice alley that anyone can have a good time at. There is a nice bar area, and even a restaurant that serves some impressive food. People rave about the French toast breakfast on the weekends. They are constantly running specials, leagues, and raffles to enjoy too!
Stone Gardens
Stone Gardens offers more than 16,000 square feet of climbing space. Whether you are a novice or veteran climber, you are sure to have a good time here. You are welcome to bring your own climbing gear, but you can rent it here as well. Stone Gardens even has beginner classes available and summer camps for kids. It is the country’s first climbing gym.
Swimming
Seattle has eight indoor swimming pools to enjoy year-round. They all offer swim lessons as well as drop-in swim times. You will find rope swings diving boards, and saunas. To pamper your aching muscles and joints, check out the therapy spa at Southwest Pool that is maintained at a soothing 102 degrees.
