One of the great things about Baltimore is that there are a ton of fantastic attractions here. It is nearly impossible to squeeze them all in, while on vacation. Fortunately, once you move to “Charm City” you will have all the time you need to explore at your own pace. Plus, you will find that many attractions give discounts or offer free days to locals. So you will want to take full advantage of them.
Baltimore Museum of Art
This museum has a fantastic collection of art, from 15th-century European drawings to 19th-century contemporary sculptures. The Baltimore Museum of Art is free every day, and there is plenty of parking. Plus, there are rotating exhibits, so there is always something new to see. Gertrude’s is a wonderful restaurant inside that offers great views and fantastic food. If you have a BMA membership you get 10 percent discount on meals.
The Walters Art Museum
This venue offers activities for children, so it is a perfect place to take the entire family. The building itself is impressive, but the outstanding collection will blow you away. You will find everything from impressionist pieces to Egyptian artifacts, and admission is always free.
Maryland Science Center
This is an extremely engaging place, so whether you or your children tend to get bored easily, you will appreciate all the interactive opportunities. In the planetarium, you will find exhibits dedicated solely to space. Popular permanent exhibits in the Science Center include Dinosaur Mysteries, Newton Alley, TerraLink, and Follow the Blue Crab. There are also traveling exhibits.
National Aquarium
More than 1.5 million people visit this massive aquarium annually. Here you will have the chance to see more than 16,500 specimens that represent 660 species. Popular exhibits include Blacktip Reef, Amazon River Forest, Upland Tropical Rain Forest, Shark Alley, Atlantic Coral Reef, Dolphin Discovery, and Jellies Invasion. You can spend an entire day here and not see everything on all the levels. Fortunately, you will be able to visit whenever you want. The aquarium is in the Inner Harbor neighborhood, as is the Maryland Science Center, the Seven Foot Knoll Lighthouse, and Historic Ships in Baltimore. If you have kids, you may want to consider moving nearby for easy access to these great attractions.
Port Discovery Children’s Museum
If you live Downtown, you will be able to walk to a number of attractions; this just happens to be one of them. “Child” magazine dubbed this one of the country’s top five children’s museums, but teenagers and parents enjoy it just as much as the younger generation. Three floors of educational and interactive exhibits make learning fun. Wonders of Water, KidWorks, and TOT Trails are the popular places to be. Plus, there are rotating exhibits, so there is always something new to learn and enjoy.
Baltimore has far too many attractions to include on one list. You will have a lot of exploring to do once you are settled. A few additional recommendations include Peabody Library, Little Italy, Federal hill Park, Fell’s Point, American Visionary Art Museum, and of course, you want to take in a game frequently at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
