Moving to Nashville for Work/New Job/Career

Nashville

Whether you have just finished college and are looking to start your career or if you are a young professional in search of better opportunities in your field, Nashville may be the perfect city for you. You might even be in the position where your employer is relocating you here, as the area continues to see quite a bit of growth. Whatever the case is, Nashville is a hotspot whether you are a young business professional, musician, or laborer. Plus, the city is as desirable for the single person as it is for a family. There is a lot to do and see here, once you are all moved and settled.

Explore the Job Market

If you already have a job lined up then you are a step ahead of the game. If not, this is a city you can relocate to and then job hunt, if you have a little money saved up to live on for a bit. Nashville offers a low cost of living, affordable residential areas, and no personal income tax.

The “home of country music” boasts offices for all Big Four record labels and offers more than 300 health care companies, one of which happens to be Hospital Corporation of America. The healthcare industry is responsible for more than 200,000 jobs in the Nashville area. Other major employers here include Nissan North America, Dell, Dollar General, HCA, MoonPies, State of Tennessee, Wal-Mart, Gaylord Entertainment, and Cracker Barrel Old Country Store.

Find a Place to Live

If you already know where you will be working then you can find a permanent residence right away. Otherwise, you may want to consider renting a room in an extended stay hotel or finding someone looking for a roommate. This way you can take your time finding a home in an area you are comfortable with.

Nashville offers a nice variety of neighborhoods with diverse housing options. So, whether you prefer a downtown loft so you can walk everywhere, or if you would like a little log cabin on a sleepy dirt road, you will find your dream housing here, and it will not cost you a small fortune. You will find you can get a nice size house with a decent amount of property for the same price as what you would spend on a tiny apartment in other major cities.

If you are looking for a laidback environment with families, artists, plenty of shops, and great restaurants look at homes in East Nashville, Belmont, and Hillsboro Village. If you prefer a trendy, fast-paced environment, check out Gulch. If the party, college scene is more your style, you want to look in the Vandy and West End areas.

Hire Movers

If you are moving from a considerable distance to get to Nashville you will probably want to go with flat rate movers. Unpakt can help you find the perfect movers to suit your needs. If you are going to seek temporary housing until you find a home, you will want to put everything in storage and then hire movers late to bring everything to Tennessee, or you can put everything in a moving container, which will double as storage until you are ready.

Getting Around

Nashville is large, but it is not so big that you will have a horrible commute. Although there are three major interstates that run through the city, the Briley Parkway, also known as Highway 155 is the best way to get around. It circles the city and exits to every major street.

There is a small commuter rail system available in some areas, but it has not grown as quickly as planned yet. The most popular form of public transportation is bus transit provided by the Metropolitan Transit Authority.

Recommended Happy Hours

Being in a new city is overwhelming. When you get done that big interview or first day on the job, you are going to want to unwind with cocktails and food at a budget-friendly price. Fortunately, there are some pretty exciting happy hours to be found in the city. A few hotspots include Eastland CafĂ©, Holland House Bar and Refuge, No.  308, Rumours East, 1808 Grille, Village Pub, and Beer Garden, and Tavern.
