unpakt preps boston college students for move back

Boston has one of the highest concentrations of universities and college students in the entire country. With notable institutions from Harvard and Boston University to the Berklee School of Music and Tufts, the Boston metro area welcomes over 250,000 students to over 80 universities and colleges each year. So this week Unpakt is prepping college students heading back to Boston on what they really need to do this year to fully enjoying living in Beantown.

Wear Comfortable Shoes to Explore Boston

Boston is known as America’s Walking City–and for good reason. With miles and miles of walkable city, pedestrians can get nearly anywhere in Boston on foot. And that’s great news for college budgets. While Uber and the T are available, and Boston mass transit is pretty reliable, getting to know your city is always done best on foot. Take advantage of the best season in New England (Fall!) and spend your first semester outside exploring your neighborhood and beyond. Falling in love with Boston and Cambridge is easy to do.

Get A Taste of Everything

If you’re new to city living you may be surprised to find so much food available via truck. But in Boston and the surrounding area, food trucks offer up some of the best food around–and the variety of options is amazing. The best part about the food truck scene is it is portable and you may find yourself tracking your favorites or stumbling across some hidden gems.

But don’t forget to try the old classics. Boston is home to amazing New England fare, including “chowdah”, lobster rolls, and generally all things seafood.

Pack Warm Layers and Enjoy Fall in New England

Moving to Boston in the early fall means getting to experience one of the hands-down best times of year in New England. With everything from tourist-worthy fall foliage to apple picking and harvest season, New England has the country beat when it comes to enjoying fall. Cable knit sweaters, leather boots, puffy vests and all things corduroy define the wardrobe of the seasoned Bostonian–so make sure to pack these essentials to fit in and enjoy the season. Of course if you arrive without, nearly every clothing store in Boston will be able to help you get your “New England uniform” up to snuff quickly.
