Whether you are feeling really hungry, looking for something large enough to split with a friend for lunch or are simply looking for big sandwiches to feed your hard working NYC movers, there are a few establishments you want to check out that are well-known for the massive size of their sandwiches. You won’t gobble your lunch up and stare at your plate, wondering where it all went. You will know when you just ate a sandwich from one of the following places. That is if you can actually finish the entire thing!
Patacon Pisao
202 St.
Washington Heights, NY 10034
When Serious Eats, My Fox New York, The New York Times, Manhattan Times, The Village Voice and Gothamist all sing the praises of sandwiches at the same restaurant, you know something has to be good. They are well-known for the Venezuelan Patacones. Unfold the foil wrapper to a huge sandwich made with chewy fried green plantains instead of bread and stuffed with a myriad of optional ingredients, like shredded beef, fried cheese, roasted pork, grilled steak and more.
Alidoro
105 Sullivan St.
New York, NY 10012
Before Alidoro moved in, Alessandro Gualandi, a phenomenal Italian sandwich maker, once found his place here in his own venue, known as Melampo. The name may be different, but the sandwiches are the same. Although all their sandwiches are pieces of art, Romeo appears to be about a mile high. There is no neat way of eating this sandwich, so expect to make a mess. If you are looking to impress your date, order something different. The Romeo is stuffed full of smoked chicken breast, arugula, M. bel paese, and hot peppers.
Defonte’s Sandwich Shop
261 3rd St.
New York, NY 10010
This is a simple restaurant with a friendly owner. This place is consistent, so you won’t have an extra-large and delicious sandwich one time and then go back a week later to order the same thing and walk away disappointed. Sandwiches are made to order on their freshly baked Italian bread. They have both cold and hot options, with the Hot Roast Beef being a favorite, stuffed with roast beef, fried eggplant, fresh mozzarella, and natural jus.
Katz’s Delicatessen
205 E. Houston St.
New York, NY 10002
Chances are good that if you ask your NYC movers about Katz’s Delicatessen, you will see mouths water. This establishment is known all over the city for its mouth-watering pastrami. The meat is tender with a peppery, flaky crust, and there is a lot of it! Be warned though, this place attracts a lot of tourists, so if you are happy to get a table, you may be waiting a long time. Take out is always quicker!
Where do you enjoy the biggest sandwiches in NYC? For the foodies out there, you’ll appreciate the vast number of establishments you can grab a quick bite to eat at in Flatbush, Brooklyn. These are not your typical quick bites either! You will find the diversity of food available in the Flatbush area to be beyond satisfying. Some of our favorite places are Joy Indian Restaurant and Nicky’s Vietnamese Sandwiches.
