Moving can be a very stressful time, so it’s important to be as prepared as possible to minimize the worry. Organizing your packing by room, and consider making packing a social event by inviting friends in exchange for food and drinks after.
Once you’ve recruited a number of friends to help you with the big day, you’ll want to make sure you’re prepared with the proper materials. To help, we’ve collected a list of the top 5 packing materials you need to make your move smooth sailing:
1. Boxes
Perhaps the most important packing material, boxes are vital to moving anything from large items to small items with ease. It would take you a long time to move if you had to carry every item you own one thing at a time! You’ll need boxes in an assortment of sizes, plus some heavy-duty boxes for holding your heaviest belongings. It’s wise to get more boxes than you think you’ll need, just in case. 2. Bubble Wrap
Bubble wrap is useful for wrapping your most fragile items, such as dishware, glasses or anything you to avoid breaking. If you have any large, fragile items, such as full-length mirrors and oversized picture frames, you can wrap these items with lots of bubble wrap, rather than putting them in boxes.
3. Packing Peanuts
When you’re boxing up uneven or odd-shaped items that aren’t going to stack neatly in a box, packing peanuts are useful for filling up any empty spaces. This will help stop the items from hitting up against one another in transit and getting broken.
4. Heavy Duty Tape
You can’t make it through a move without a few rolls of heavy duty tape. You’ll need it to reinforce boxes while you’re assembling them and to seal them up once they’re full. You may also need the tape to fix the bubble wrap in place around delicate items. Make sure you choose a heavy duty tape specifically designed for packing as regular tape and masking tape hold the weight of the items in the box, causing the items to fall out and break.
5. Marker Pens
While not a packing material in the classic sense, you’ll be lost without marker pens when you’re packing. To make things easier for you when you get to your new home, you’ll want to label each box according to what’s in it or which room the items belong to. For example, you might want to mark a box “books” “bedroom” or “kitchen stuff.” The quickest and easiest way to do this is to make a note on each box with a marker pen.
