While packing bedding for a move isn’t the most difficult task, it’s one of those things that if you don’t do right, can become overwhelming in a short amount of time. So if you’re planning on moving and would like to minimize stress and last-minute franticness, here are a few tips on how to pack bedding for a stress-free, calm experience.
Plan Ahead
Planning ahead is the first trick, which means that you need to know what packing materials you’ll need to pack your bedding. Because bedding folds up relatively neatly, you won’t need anything complicated; rather, you’ll need basics that will probably be on your packing supplies checklist for general packing:
- Cardboard boxes: Large boxes for lighter, fluffier items like pillows and comforters, and medium-sized boxes for blankets, towels, and sheets.
- Packing paper: Line your boxes with packing paper for an extra layer of protection.
- Plastic bags: Like garbage bags, for example, which you can put your linen in before putting it in boxes. Plastic bags provide excellent protection against moisture.
- Packing tape and a marker: Use tape to seal your boxes and a marker to mark what’s inside.
Choose Your Boxes Carefully
Make sure to select the right size boxes for your bedding. While bedding, towels, and linen fold up nicely, they can still take up a fair amount of space inside boxes. You can minimize the number of boxes you need by buying sufficiently large boxes.
Use Bedding in Place of Bubble Wrap
Unless your bedding is super-expensive, it’s a good option to use to wrap fragile items. When you use bedding as cushioning, you can replace typical packing materials like bubble wrap with your very own sheets and blankets, which you would need to pack anyway.
Compress As Much As Possible
If you’re packing only bedding inside a box (as opposed to using it as cushioning), press down on it as much as possible. Trapped air will only take up space and will make you use more boxes than are necessary. If you really want to maximize your space, you can pack your bedding inside large vacuum-pack bags and then place them in boxes
Make Sure to Label
There’s nothing more frustrating than arriving in your new house, standing amid tens of boxes, and not having any clue as to where they belong. So when you pack your bedding, towels, comfortables, pillows, etc., make sure to label the boxes. If you use your bedding as cushioning, include that on the box label as well! That way, you’ll be able to get started on unpacking in an orderly fashion.

If you’re using bedding as cushioning, you can even skip the folding part.
