If you have a deep fondness for culture and you are moving to the area, you may also want to consider volunteering here, if you are not interested in becoming a student.

Garretson Forge and Farm
This farm has been in the Garretson family since 1719, and in 1974, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. It was originally a massive plantation where many slaves worked the land, but piece by piece, the land was sold away. Today, there are only two acres left that surround the family home.
You can explore the extensive garden and outside museum. Although the garden is small, it grows more than 50 herbs and spices. There is also a fruit orchard and butterfly garden.
The Ridgewood Art Institute
All galleries are held on the main floor of this 100-year-old converted barn. You can become a student, volunteer or visit as a guest. The public is more than welcome to attend lectures and painting demonstrations as well. Exhibits are constantly rotated, and last an average of one to three weeks, so there is always something new to see.
Fort Lee Historic Park
Located atop a bluff overlooking Burdett’s Landing is this historic fort. It is suggested that Native Americans likely inhabited the area for thousands of years prior to the arrival of the Europeans. The site is named after General Charles Lee, and it features a reconstruction of the battery, blockhouse and quarters. There were more than 2,600 troops once stationed around this area.
Martinka
To call Martinka and Company a magical place would be an understatement. After all, it is the country’s oldest magic company! It was founded in 1877, and today has combined with more than 30 magic firms. Although Ted Bogusta owns it today, many other significant names once held the deed, including Harry Houdini.
