Great Things to Do Outdoors in Columbus, Ohio

Ohio is not typically thought of as a state associated with outdoor fun. This is not a place where you flock to in the winter to go skiing, and there certainly is not an ocean to do any surfing or scuba diving. However, if you ask your Columbus movers they will likely tell you that there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors here. Here are some of the great things to do outdoors in Columbus, Ohio.

Magic Mountain

There are two Magic Mountain locations in Columbus, Ohio! This is a fun place to go on a date, with friends or with the entire family. Here you will find bumper boats, go-karts, miniature golf, a video arcade, laser tag and a climbing playground for kids.

Zoombezi Bay Waterpark

You will definitely want to buy a season pass to this Waterpark because you will want to come here every chance you get. This 22-acre park includes an action river, wave pool, 17 exhilarating water slides, kiddie pool and private cabanas. A few points of interest to put on your list to check out include the Cyclone, Sea Snakes, Python Plunge, Big Boa Falls and Barracuda Bay.

The Wilds

There is a lot to do at The Wilds! The Wild Zip Line Safari takes you across 10 zip lines, where you can see herding animals. You can also take a horseback safari, fishing safari, and a sunset safari, which offers beautiful views of the landscape and wild animals, as they become most active while feeding right before nightfall.

If you appreciate unparalleled beauty, take a stroll through the 10-acre prairie that is full of flowers that attract a mass amount of butterflies. If you want to satisfy your need for an adrenaline rush, a portion of The Wilds is dedicated to mountain biking.

Columbus Zoo and Aquarium

Unlike other zoos that close in the winter, this one is open year-round. Just a few of the many animals you will meet here include leopards, lions, tigers, elephants, rhinos, bears, flamingos, pumas and kangaroos. There is a carousel and a train ride to enjoy, and children can even take a pony ride.

Visit a State Park

There are several state parks in the area to get out and active at, or at least enjoy some fresh air! You will find paved paths as well as nature trails for walking, running, and cycling. Some parks have water where you can rent a kayak or pedal boat, or you can simply go swimming. Archery ranges and disc golf are even available at certain locations.

Olentangy Indian Caverns

Your Columbus movers will tell you that the best time to visit these caverns is on a scorching hot summer day because they will be a nice cool 54 degrees, even when the outside temperature is steamy. There is a rich history to learn about these caverns as you descend 105 feet below the Earth’s surface. There are other fun stuff to do here including miniature golf, gem mining, and rock wall climbing, or if you have children, you may want to visit the petting zoo too.
