Not all rental truck companies are the same! Considering renting a Penske Truck? Here’s everything you need to know about truck sizes, costs, and the details of the move.
What are your options?
With so many options, how do you know which size will fit all of your belongings without being too big? Have a look at the sizes of Penske trucks you can choose from.
- 12-foot truck: Made to fit the contents of a studio or 1 bedroom apartment, this truck has 450cubic feet of storage space and can carry 3,100 pounds. Unlike the other three trucks, this option does not have vehicle towing capacity.
- 16-foot truck: Slightly larger, this truck will hold the contents of a 1-2 bedroom apartment or small home. 800cubic feet
- 22 foot truck: With 1,200cubic feet of capacity and a 10,000-pound weight limit, this truck is made for a 2-3 bedroom home. If you have a lot of furniture, particularly bulky things like couches or armchairs, the space of this truck will be beneficial. This truck is also 8’1” high inside, instead of just over 6’ in the smaller trucks – important if you have large furniture.
- 26-foot truck: The largest truck you can rent without a CDL license, this truck will fit the contents of a larger home into 1,700 cubic feet of storage space and can hold up to 10,000 pounds. If you’re not sure this truck will be large enough, you should probably consider hiring a moving company vs. renting a moving truck.
What will it cost?
A base-rate can be determined by the size of the truck you’re renting, but there are a few different factors that will also impact potential price increases. How far are you moving, and are you leaving the state? Penske offers free unlimited mileage on one-way trips, with the price determined in large part by how long you plan to have the truck. If you decide to extend your journey and take a side-trip, you can rent additional days on the fly. Round-trip trucks are charged by the mile, but how much it costs to rent a Penske truck can also change slightly depending on demand.
Do keep in mind that a moving truck probably gets much lower gas mileage than your car, especially if it’s loaded full of heavy stuff or towing a vehicle. Do yourself a favor and estimate gas costs ahead of time to ensure they don’t catch you by surprise.
Lastly, will you need any accessories? If you plan to tow a vehicle, or will need a moving dolly or furniture pads, reserve those when you reserve your truck to get the most accurate idea of what renting a Penske will actually cost.
